Successes of the United Bowhunters of Connecticut, Inc.
|
|
|
|
In addition to our primary goal of maintaining CT bowhunting rights, we feel it is important to
give something back to our communities in a non-hunting way. This shows the public that
sportsmen and women care not only about wildlife management and the environment, but all
of mankind as well.
Initiated a regulation change to allow bowhunting on some private and state land during
the shotgun/rifle season on properties where firearms hunting is not allowed.
Initiated an increase of fall archery turkey tags from one to two.
Initiated the opening of some state lands for bowhunting which had been closed.
Involvement in the passage of the "Hunters For Hungry" legislation.
Involvement in unlimited doe tags in some counties
Involvement to defeat a season closure bill.
Involvement to defeat a 6% tax implied on Connecticut sportsman.
Involvement to defeat various buffer zone proposals which would have eliminated a large
percentage of hunting habitat.
Involvement to defeat a license increase bill.
Involvement in various municipalities trying to restrict hunting rights.

Hunt To Feed
The UBC is a proud sponsor of the Hunt To Feed program, which raises funds to allow
any state hunter an avenue to donate venison to which in turn gives directly back to the
CT Food Bank and various other non-profit organizations.
To learn more the program and how you could assist either through venison or monetary
donations, please visit Hunt To Feed.
Hunter Appreciation Day
Hunter Appreciation Day was an event held where UBC members and other volunteers
comb our local forests and parks picking up whatever trash that has been left behind by
those less considerate of our environment. This program has had a very positive impact
on CT’s forests and parks – over a three-year period we were able to collect and
properly dispose of over 4 tons of trash.
We were awarded the DEP Green Circle Award from our efforts with this program. This
is a great way to show the non-hunting public that the hunting community makes
positive contributions to our natural resources that everyone enjoys.
St. Judes Children's Research Hospital
We have raised over $212,000 for St Judes Children’s Research Hospital. This is was
done through an our annual "Shoot-a-Thon s" where archers accumulate monetary
pledges for points, then target shoot (paper or 3D) for scores at a range or club. They
can shoot at a special St. Judes shoot or at any 3D club shoot. The positive public
relations we receive from this can not be overemphasized. People from all walks of life
have commented on the effort and results of the United Bowhunters of Connecticut of
this cause. We have received letters from Danny Thomas's wife, heard Randy Owens of
the country musical group Alabama speak about our efforts, and have read about our
efforts in Bowhunter Magazine. Most importantly, we have heard from the kids
themselves who are patients at St. Judes, who have shared with us their thanks for our
relationship with the St. Judes Children's Hospital. $167,000 is a significant amount of
money for any organization to raise and makes it extra special when you consider it came
exclusively from Connecticut bowhunters.
The U.B.C. has continually shown a strong presence in the Connecticut legislature and is
dedicated to lobbying for your bowhunting rights and the rights of all Connecticut
sportsmen.
We are a young, strong and ACTIVE organization. Since our formulation in 1990, the U.
B.C. has become a major legislative force concerning sportsmen’s issues.
This is all done with limited resources derived from memberships. We need your support
to maintain this strength.

Help us protect the future of bowhunting and your American Heritage.
